The goal of the game is to guess the unknown player.

To start, you'll be shown three players the unknown player was teammates with at some point in their career. Their uniforms may not match a team they actually shared with the unknown player.

With each incorrect guess, additional hints are revealed:

  1. Names of the unknown player's teammates
  2. The unknown player's position(s)
  3. The years the unknown player was active
  4. The teams the first teammate shared with the unknown player
  5. The teams the second teammate shared with the unknown player
  6. The teams the third teammate shared with the unknown player
  7. A photo of the unknown player

Stuck? You can Pass instead of guessing. A pass counts as one of your 8 guesses, but it still reveals the next hint.

After 8 guesses without a correct answer, the game ends and the unknown player is revealed.

When the game ends, tap Share results to copy a spoiler-free grid of your guesses - one row per guess, one square per teammate - to send to friends.

Win puzzles on consecutive days to build a streak. A loss, or a puzzle you skip, ends it - but today's puzzle never breaks your streak until you've actually lost it. MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL keep separate streaks, and your best one is saved on your profile.

A new puzzle is released every day at midnight Eastern, for MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL. Future puzzles stay locked until their day arrives.

What the colors mean

Every guess shows how your player connects to each of the three teammates - compared to how the mystery player actually connects to them:

Teammate 1Full match - your guess played with them on every team and year that connects them to the mystery player. Extra teams together don't count against it.
Teammate 1Partial match - your guess played with them, but missed at least one of the teams or years that connect them to the mystery player.
Teammate 1No connection - your guess never played with them at all.

The first green match with a teammate unlocks their shared teams early. Hover or tap a yellow match to see which of those connecting teams your guess did share with that teammate.
